Hunt of Hope

Providing an opportunity of a lifetime for children with terminal or chronic disabling illnesses.

Hunt of Hope became a charitable organization of its own, after being part of Buckmasters Life Hunts for 9 years. Hunt of Hope was a dream after several local friends/hunters in Tuscaloosa, AL discussed wanting to do more. Hunt of Hope became an official independent charitable organization in 2019. Our mission at HOH is to provide the opportunity of a lifetime to children with terminal or chronic disabling illnesses within the United States. We are able to provide hunting trips, travel expenses and new camo gear for 2-6 children each year, depending on our fundraising that year, and the schedule of Davis Whitetails.(www.daviswhitetails.com) HOH provides all meals/snacks/drinks; as well as, lodging for the children and their families. Many of the children we have hunt with us have strength, coordination, or other issues that doesn't allow them to hold and shoot a gun as you may be able to. HOH provides specialized equipment that allows these children to not only enjoy the hunting experience but also be able to harvest the deer themselves or with very minimal assistance.

Emma was born at 33 weeks and spend the first 16 months of her life in the hospital. Emma was diagnosed with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and Tracheal Malacia. Emma came home on a ventilator, oxygen, tracheotomy, and feeding tube. Over the years, Emma grew and was able to wean off many of her medical devices. Emma was diagnosed at age 4 with Autism. She has always been terrified of loud noises. She would get in the fetal position, hold her ears, and scream if anyone even showed her a gun, let alone shot one. In 2017 Emma was diagnosed with a genetic disorder, NKX2-1 (also known as Brain, Lung, and Thyroid Syndrome) after a 3 month stay at the hospital for an intensive feeding program. Emma still has her feeding tube and wears oxygen at night. Emma's step father asked her if she wanted to go hunting and kill a deer during youth weekend 2020. Emma surprised everyone when she excitedly exclaimed she did! During their hunt they were not able to get a shot at a deer and Emma cried and cried. The opportunity given to her by Hunt of Hope to be able to not only go on a hunt of a lifetime, but to be able to harvest the deer on her one with the specialized equipment, made it even more special. Emma was so excited and so proud of her deer she killed. Hunt of Hope will never know what this day meant to, not only Emma but, all of us!!
